Sunset on the San Gabriel - Georgetown, TX

A few weeks ago I was sitting at home and looking out our back window. It was about one hour until sunset and I thought conditions were going to pan out for a pretty nice sunset. I packed the gear up and headed to one of my more photographed locations on the San Gabriel river. Conditions turned out as expected with some high clouds and zero wind that made the river almost appear to be a pane of glass. The lack of wind makes for nice reflections on the water. To make this photo I waded into the middle of the river and set up my tripod in the water and took three bracketed photos to make and HDR of the scene. The HDR processing really brings out the rocks under the water and of course makes sunsets spectacular.

  1. My God that is just a slice of heaven! You are amazing Jason at capturing not only the picture itself but the essence...ahhhhh I feel like I am sitting on the rock on the right of this picture breathing in the water, the setting sun and just breathing in the Sonday. The essence(that which is felt not seen) of this picture is magnificent to me...simply brilliant!! Thank you so very, very much for snapping a moment in time and allowing me to just sit here and breathe wishing I was there saying good-bye to another Sonday and hello to another week. Blessings to you. My gosh...

  4. Well captured, Jason! I like how you kept the brightness down, which I'm sure is how the scene actually looked. There is always the temptation to boost contrast and brighten a photo. Again, great work!

  5. Nice shot Jason! You have a good knack for finding the nice spots around here and capturing them quite well. We'll have to go shooting sometime!

  6. Beautiful image. I agree with Scooter. The image makes me feel like I'm standing right in the middle of the stream, and almost wishing I were there.
